This Artist Makes Wood Sculptures from Beach Waste
Jul 17, 2019
Wood sculptures are not a new thing, but Jeffro Uitto manages to bend wood pieces found on the beaches Of USA in a very unique way. He creatively transforms wooden pieces into sculptures that often depict animals like horses, eagles, lions, and others.
While starting a sculpture Uitto don’t really have an idea of what he will make out of the wood. He never knows exactly what the result of his work will be. He explains ever since he was a child he liked collecting wood, especially driftwood that had patterns beaten into them by the waves. Through his driftwood creations, the artist wants to emphasize that each object has its own 'life'. A life that can be conveyed as a piece of art.
Most of Jeffro's tools are handmade by himself, which is often surprising for visitors that stumble across his shop. It is evident that Jeffro Uitto has an inextinguishable passion for his craft.
He said: It’s really nature inspired, the love and curiosity for the subjects and the infinity of materials. It's really humbling to see how many people connect with the work. It's also important to bring attention to these animals, their mysterious beauty and the extinction they face."
