Women’s Day is celebrated for women and their achievements “without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. It first emerged from the activities of labour movements at the turn of the 20thcentury in North America and across Europe."
Celebrated first time in 1909 in the United States in honor of the 1908 garment workers’ strike in New York where women protested against working conditions.’
After this an official meeting was organized in Copenhagen where it was decided to honor the movement for women’s rights and ‘build support for achieving universal suffrage for women.’ This idea got approved by100 women from 17 countries and March 19 was decided as the Women’s Day.
