The World's first fully organic state
Sikkim was given the pride as the state’s policies have benefited over 66,000 farmers. The state’s food policies also look forward to socio-economic aspects like tourism, consumption, markets and development that has a developing approach toward agriculture. Chief Minister of Sikkim, Pawan Kumar Chamling received the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation's, Future Policy Gold Award for the state.
It employs effective micro-organisms technology for compost and bio-pesticides. The state also uses organic seeds for agriculture rather than those hybrid ones used at other places. It makes sure that the seeds used are locally adapted high-quality ones with conducting regular soil health assessments to keep a check that the seeds give the best output.
The most important thing for the state’s success is probably the invention programme that was implemented to raise awareness about organic farming practices among farmers.
