Some people have the spirit and passion worth saluting and they inspire everyone with their good deeds. Maarten van der Weijden an amazing swimmer from the Netherlands has a passion for swimming from a very young age. But, as life is never too easy he was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 19 and came in a situation where it was really hard for him to survive. Luckily he surprised everyone by fighting the deadly disease and continuing his passion immediately after 2 years. Maarten became a gold medalist at the Olympic Games in 2008 Beijing.
As he has been through such a heart breaking and testing phase in life so, recently Maarten decided to swim 200 kilometers long track of the Elfstedentocht to raise funds for cancer research.
Although the swim was scheduled for 3 days but due to bad condition of water and health Maarten managed to swim a distance of 163 kilometers in 55 hours.
Though he did not complete the target but still it resulted as a huge success because he raised a stunning sum of more than $4 million. A lot of people praised Maarten for his incredible attempt. His hands and feet could depict how hard it is to cover such a long distance.
