Luckily she used Twitter to publicize her plight and explain people why she decided to left her country.
Rahaf wrote “I wanted to be free from oppression and depression,I wanted to be independent. I wouldn’t have been able to marry the person I wanted. I couldn’t get a job without permission.” Immediately after reading this, people from all over the World came forward in her support. After going through her story, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees chose Canada to protect her because they processed her application more quickly. “This wasn’t my choice, it was the UN’s,” she said. “All I wanted was a country to protect me".
After getting the news of her staying safely in Canada, Rahaf’s family released a statement on Monday saying they have disowned Qunun and described her as “mentally unstable”.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters: "We will always stand up for human rights and women's rights around the world. When the UN made a request of us that we grant Ms al-Qunun asylum, we accepted." Rahaf is really thankful to Canada for giving her protection and she wants to fight for every woman who are not able to get freedom and are dealing with the same problems.
She got many threat calls and messages online.
She also told that in Saudi no woman is allowed to do anything, everything has to be asked from a male and escaping means death so even if she would have returned, her family may have killed her. She says that every girl deserves to live a happy life and with freedom so she will always support and stand with the ones who are still into this depressing state.
