A couple from Madhya Pradesh, India, Rani, and Sankalp Parihar planted two saplings years back in hope that they will grow like other trees in their orchard. But the saplings developed and bore unusual ruby-colored mangoes. A surprise for the couple, the mangoes turned out to be Japanese Miyazaki.
The Miyazaki mangoes are the most expensive in the world and sold at INR2.70 lakh per kilogram in the international market.
Parihar said that last year thieves broke into their orchards and stole the mangoes after people got to know that they have started growing this rare fruit. So this year they have employed four guards and six dogs to guard the rare trees and seven mangoes.Sankalp has named the mangoes Damini, after the name of his mother.
Discussing how he got the saplings he explained: “I was on my way to Chennai to buy some saplings when I met a man who offered me these saplings that turned out to be Miyazaki. He offered these saplings to me and asked me to take care of these plants like our babies. We planted it in the orchard without knowing what variety of mangoes it will produce.” He added last year when the saplings started bearing fruits, they found them to be very different, and later they discovered that they are Miyazaki.About Miyazaki Mangoes:
