Without a shadow of a doubt, this will be my last octopus for a long, long while. My body seriously suffers from the intense work all these tentacles require. But I am extremely happy with how my second ever octopus sculpture turned out and am glad my work is going to someone who has serious appreciation ???????????????? A cat! How did she come out of all of that wool.. several marathon needle felting sessions later, I’ve conquered the white whale of my world. For the past 6 years I have avoided making cats because I had such a hard time previously with their head shape. But I could not say no to this commission!! She is destined to star in "Queens" at Lincoln Center Theater: www.lct.org/shows/queens/ . It's a new play by an up and coming playwright about the experiences of various immigrant women in New York. The cat's name is Nancy in the show ????????!! I wish I could work for a theater company making art permanently. That would be so cool!! Here is the finished, life sized barn owl. Needle felted over wire, taxidermy glass eyes. Beak and talons are sculpted and painted. She perches on a needle felted branch and the wall sconce is a stained and sealed slice of wood. Here is the finished squirrel monkey, inspired by Pippi Longstocking's Mr. Nilsson ???? He is needle felted of course, over a wire armature for stability and sits 8.5 inches tall. The dome jar is traveling with him because I love the look and it keeps the sculpture safe from moths and dust. Shipping is calculating on the high side, because the box is large and weighs 3 lbs. It all came together today! Flying fox bats are very awesome animals. I have needle felted a few for people who work with and protect them in Australia. To make a piece that combines a painting and the needle felted version, is like creating a mini version of a museum exhibit. Hopefully I can make fellow bat lovers happy with this piece! While browsing Instagram I came across @feathered.paradise and through that visited Kyran @cockatoos.paradise and was struck by how beautiful a Major Mitchell's cockatoo is. I looked them up and had to needle felt one (it was so fun to work in color!). This lady (she has reddish eyes and I read that lady Major Mitchell's cockatoo's have red/ish eyes) is almost 15 inches long. She is needle felted over a wire armature and has a hand sculpted and hand painted beak. She also has taxidermy glass eyes. I hope I conveyed a feisty and fun personality! Needle felted white raven. Leucistic ravens are quite rare. They are not albino in that, they have pigment but it is expressed in reduced form. They have blue eyes! This sculpture is made with wool, wire, fimo and glass eyes. #yvonnesworkshop #needlefelting #raven #whiteraven #leucistic #etsy
