This Gender Reveal Video Has a Powerful Message

A Toronto couple hosted a unique gender revealing party for their friends and family to raise awareness on gender and the video is going viral on social media platforms for all the right reasons.

Gender revealing videos and parties are gaining attention in the internet and social media culture and the most stereotypical way to make this announcement is to demarcate them by using pink and blue colours—pink for girls and blue for boys.

But a Toronto couple decided to go further and showed people that gender revealing parties truly celebrates the cultural meanings attached to feminity and masculinity.

In the video, as friends and family finish the countdown, the soon-to-be father opens the spray can and to everyone’s surprise, instead of blue or pink , green color fume came out.

The video then shows everyone around them visibly distressed and choking. While the pregnant woman pretends to be shocked, the soon-to-be father apologizes to everyone. The video ends with a message which reads, “Gender is a construct”.

The TikTok was shared by Twitter user Nikki Mccann Ramírez. She also explained the concept of the video in the comment section.Thought the video got viral, it got mixed reactions.
