The internet often digs out the image that makes us wonder “oh god, what is this”? And that is when the Sherlock inside us wakes up. When this Twitter user working with the Indian Forest Service came across a peculiar sight, he decided to share it with his followers.
And the spooky-looking picture of what appears to be of a foot coming out from beneath a log of wood has left people storming their heads.

Sharing the picture, Susanta Nanda also asked people to identify the ‘animal’. And within hours of sharing the photo, social media was flooded with responses. Check out what they said:

Whereas some people were able to identify the creature, many people online couldn’t guess it right. Hence, Susanta tried to ease the confusion. As per him, it’s an image of a fungus called ‘Dead Man’s Fingers’ or Xylaria polymorpha. He also attached a link to give us a brief about the bizarre-looking fungus.
Many identified it correctly as their own foot or foot of politicians????

And for your knowledge, the fungus gets its name ‘Dead Man’s Fingers’ because of its dull-looking appearance and it usually ‘arises in tufts of three to six fingers that are often bent and give the impression of arthritic black knuckles.’
