How to Protect your Pets On Holi

Mar 06, 2020

With spring around the corner, this is the most vibrant time in India as people are all set to celebrate Holi and are in the best spirit. Although this festival is exciting but pets don’t really have the best time during Holi. Animals are seen running here and there frantically, trying to avoid the exposure to these chemical-laden colors.

Since our furry friends are not capable of protecting themselves from these water balloons, pichkari, and gulaal, let’s keep their health and well-being in mind and know how you can protect them this Holi.

Try spreading awareness in your area about the adverse effects of colors on pets.

Keep your pets away from open grounds and crowded places to keep them at a safe distance from colors.

Protect them from skin allergies by using only pet shampoos to clean them up. Regular shampoos may be mild for us but aren’t the best option for our pets.

Keep an eye on your pets to see if they have ingested dry colors accidentally. If they suddenly start to vomit or develop swelling, take them to a vet immediately.

Keep your pets away from sweets. Avoid feeding them any Holi special treats made for your guests as it can upset their stomach.

Avoid petting your dogs and cats if you are covered in colors. Wait till you have taken a bath and are free of any residual gulaal.

Keep your pets away from colored water. It generally contains metals and harmful chemicals. Colored water causes liver problems in dogs.

Keep your pets away in a separate room if you are celebrating Holi at your home. Also, make sure that children understand well that dry colors shouldn’t be thrown at pets.

How do you plan to take care of your pets this Holi?
