Beauty pageants may seem like a competition for the title but there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes. Sometimes things don't go as expected and live telecast does not help their case. There have been many unfortunate instances in the past few years and here are some of the most controversial ones.

Mrs. Sri Lanka being stripped of her crown

Starting from the recent one, Pushpika De Silva, Mrs Sri Lanka was stripped off her crown soon after she was given the title as Former Mrs Sri Lanka Caroline Jurie assumed she was a divorcee.

Miss USA 2018 issuing a public apology

Sarah Rose Summers issued a public apology after making comments on the English speaking skills of her fellow competitors. She did continue to participate but didn't win the title for Miss Universe.

Contestant mocking #MeToo movement

Former Miss Nevada was arrested for possession of meth
